Field Day October 9

Plans for our very first Field Day are under way. We have had lots of fun activities mentioned and I can't wait! While it has been on the calendar since our planning meeting, I wanted to make sure that everyone knew.

It is tentatively scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM but please check the blog often to get the official start time and other pertinent details. As one who likes as much advance notice as possible, I wanted to let y'all know a few details now:
  • we will play all morning and then picnic together for lunch
  • you'll need plenty of drinks for your kids and YOURSELF so start stockpiling your water and gatorade now
  • the purpose of this Field Day is to encourage/ inspire in our kids : physical activity, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal excellence. Of course, the best way to teach these things are through FUN activities like we'll have on Field Day.
  • We want to encourage healthy competition which may best be defined as each child doing his best. We do NOT want to encourage unhealthy competition which may be defined as each child attempting to do someone else's best. A great movie to see an example of this is Facing the Giants - very appropriate for children to watch. The message is excellent and worth wading through the poor acting!

If you have any suggestions/ ideas, please email me (Melanie Hamlin) with them at drhamlin@bellsouth.net

We look forward to playing together soon.

Melanie
