Book Review - Bunnicula

Bunnicula by Deborah and James Howe
We just finished this book which we found delightful. Here's the short version:
  • not scary despite the title
  • suspenseful but hilarious
  • narrated by a dog, involves a cat and a bunny
  • parents are intelligent and have healthy marriage
  • had to give my sheltered kids some background on vampires and Dracula
  • good vocabulary opportunities as well as discussion of homophones - steak and stake
  • good mapping opportunities - Transylvania and Carpathian Mts.
  • Read-aloud with some explanation for ages 7 - 12. Read alone ages 8 - up. These are my best guesses, mind you - nothing formal, or even educated about it.

We'll return our copy to the library within a week in case you'd like to check it out.
