Map Lesson Thursday

Thursday, after our writing lesson 9:30 - 10:30, I am offering a quick mapping lesson for all ages of children. It should last from 30 min. - 45 min. tops with a short homework assignment to do before our next Writing Thursday. The lesson is inspired by a book called Mapping Penny's World by Loreen Leedy. We'll make mapping simple and cover the following things:
  • What is a map
  • Symbols
  • Compass Rose
  • Legend/ Key - this should also help reinforce some aspects of the writing the students have been doing.

Even the younger children (who are interested) can participate. They can help us think up symbols to use on our maps and then draw those symbols. They can also head back into the gym once they've drawn their symbol.

You will need no additional supplies for this class.

That said, I'll need moms to help individuals during this lesson too. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at drhamlin@bellsouth.net

See you tomorrow,

Melanie Hamlin

I can't wait. I know Parker will enjoy every bit of this and probably even Tal who loves to draw pictures. See you tomorrow!
