- children understand that a map is an overhead picture of a specific place
- children understand and use symbols as they map a familiar place
- children understand three important parts of a map: key/legend, title, symbols
For our next Writing Thursday, please help your child(ren) create a map of his room which includes the following three things:
- symbols of the things in their rooms (bed, desk, etc.)
- Title for their map ("My Bedroom")
- Key/ Legend which will be a little box with each symbol and what it stands for on the map
Note: We are not at all worried about scale for this map. On our Field Trip next week to Troy University we'll work together to map the fountains in the main quad on campus. That will be the first time we will touch on scale. After that, if they understand it and want to draw their map to scale, they may; but I won't be expecting it.
Please let your children be as free as possible in coming up with their own symbols. Understanding that a symbol is representing something else is the most important part of this exercise. After all, we'll know from the legend what it is.
Thank you for your help,
Melanie Hamlin

Gathering common facts and quotations or in other way proved arguments needed when writing Papersmartnet homework essays may demand some time and almost always huge efforts. Being a tertiary learner i understand i need help on my topic given at the university, because i realize the problem and need someone to collect the data for better analysis. This custom writing company can do it logically as i prefer using foundation that are respected.
