Public Speaking Day this Thursday, Feb 17
Hey y'all,
Just wanted to remind you that the Public Speaking Day which was originally scheduled for 2 weeks ago (Feb 3) is scheduled for this Thursday, February 17. Please feel free to invite people who are considering homeschooling or who are new to homeschooling.
Carlene said it well last time so I'll paraphrase her. If this date has crept up on you, don't worry. Remember that Public Speaking Day is about practicitng being in front of the "public" so whether they talk about a book they've read, the science they are studying, recite a poem/ speech, or tell about a favorite day with their grandparent, encourage your student to take this unique low-pressure opportunity to speak to a friendly group of their peers. As you know, this important skill must be practiced for a person to become a confident and comfortable public speaker. Nobody will judge whether you child's presentation is "best" or whether it was done the morning of.
We will begin at 10:00. My family plans to stay until 1:00 and picnic. Feel free to join us if you'd like. We look forward to seeing you then.

Public Speaking Day
I just wanted to remind everyone about our Public Speaking day planned for next Thursday, Feb. 3rd starting at 9:30. If this date has crept up on you, don't worry. Remember, public speaking day is about the kids practicing being in front of a crowd talking. They can tell us about a book they have read, recite a poem, talk about what you are learning about in Science, tell us about their favorite day with one of their grandparents....The point is, I want to encourage all of you to participate as you know this is a skill one must practice to feel comfortable and confident. No one will judge whether you feel like you have the "best" presentation or whether you worked on it the morning of. See you guys then!

Planetarium Visit
Just a reminder of the upcoming planetarium visit at Landmark Park in Dothan on January 21 at 10 am. Anyone who wishes to caravan to Landmark from Troy please meet at First Baptist FLC building/parking lot no later than 8:15 am. Be ready to leave by 8:30 am.
There are some "housekeeping" that needs to be taken care of before leaving or as soon as we arrive at the park. The director prefers we present one check for payment on arrival Friday. Please pay me by check or correct cash on Friday morning. The following are the fees:
student $2.50
parent/chaperon $1.25
*Note: "Students" are anyone FOUR years and older that can participate in the
program.
Each program can accommodate a maximum of 45 students and adults combined. If we have more than that number, we will need to divide the group. Program length is about 45 minutes.
Please try to confirm with me if your family will be attending and the number of "students"and adults that will be viewing the program as well as children under FOUR you will have. I will sit with the children that are not old enough to attend the program, but I will need a gracious volunteer to watch over my two during the program. We have 2 options for those under 4. We can take them to the playground outside or keep them in the Interpretive Area of the planetarium. We can decide on that once we see the forecast for the day. If we do keep them inside, please bring any entertainment for them that would be helpful to occupy them for the length of the program. Depending on how many under 4 kids there are, I may need another mom to help with that task.
The address is 430 Landmark Drive, Dothan, AL 36303. Driving from Troy take 231 South to Dothan. Make a LEFT onto Westgate Parkway traveling until it dead ends into 431. Turn LEFT onto 431. The park is approximately 1.5 miles on LEFT. Currently, there is construction at the entrance so there may not be a sign marking the park entrance. Below is a map if the link works.

The phone number for the park is 334-794-3452. Dana Peters is the Education Director. Our group is scheduled as the "Troy Homeschool Co-op".
Someone will meet us in the parking lot to take us to the facility Friday morning. We are supposed to wear name tags according to the Teacher Fact Sheet and I will take care of that for you once I have confirmation from you of your attendance. Of course, we are expected to be on our best behavior - not talking while the Educator is speaking or during questions asked by students, being courteous to our fellow students by not partaking in disruptive behavior. Cameras are welcome, however, no food, gum, or other snacks are not permitted during the program. Please prepare you children of the park's expectations.
The park does encourage us to visit other areas and as it will be close to lunch time for most of us, I am open to picnicking with any other family interested in doing so. The picnic area is located outside next to the playground. It is covered, but depending on temperature will determine if we picnic.
If you have any questions or concerns and to register you family, please email me at staceyandblake@yahoo.com. I look forward to our next adventure at Landmark Park!

Public Speaking Day
Hi Everyone!
Our Public Speaking Day will be Nov. 4th, from 9-11:30 at the Family Life Center. If you would like, you can plan to bring a picnic lunch and stay until 1pm. Please register with me at marilyn@troycable.net if you are planning to attend, and if your child will be speaking. This is a great opportunity for our kids to be up in front of their peers. Please, please, please, do not stress about this day. If your student has not prepared anything, come anyway! We need an audience, and there is always insight to be gained from watching others. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email or call.

October 15 Feild trip
We will tour the Alabama Cattle Association's Mooseum and the Alabama Archives and History. There is no charge for the tours and lots of Alabama history will be covered. If your family plans to join us please email me at mom2rhk@yahoo.com by Wed Oct 13.
My thoughts are that we can meet at FBC Family life Center and caravan to Montgomery and after the tours we can picnic, go some place to eat or just split up, what ever works best for the group.
